"My veterinary research work at the Sanctuary, as part of my Masters degree, is focused on the critically endangered Helmeted Honeyeater or 'He Ho' as we call it for short."
Healesville Sanctuary has been involved in the Recovery Program for over ten years. 'I'm investigating the health of Helmeted Honeyeaters in the wild, particularly trying to work out what is 'normal health' for them, through blood tests and faecal (poo) samples. This work makes me feel like I can really make a difference."
Dr Kelly also has a special interest in Cetaceans, otherwise known as dolphins and whales. "I spend a lot of my spare time volunteering for the Victorian Cetacean Stranding Network. We help rescue all sorts of marine wildlife. My love of all animals inspired me to become a vet. I am lucky because I have a house on the coast where I can pursue my passion."
