Veterinary nurses play a really important role in wildlife health. Vet Nurse Fiona also helps to keep our hospital running like clockwork!
A good vet nurse is focused on the critical care of patients. “When a vet is doing surgery for instance, I have to closely monitor the animal under anaesthetic – checking its heart rate and breathing and making sure it gets the right dose of anaesthetic. I have to really concentrate as breath sounds and heartbeats in some animals can be really hard to monitor. From the anaesthetic point of view - the patient and the vet really depend on me.”
When Fiona is not at work she likes to travel. “I’ve just come back from a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia which was awesome. I also checked out the wildlife there including some pretty cool water buffalo.”
