RACV Wildlife Connect 13 11 11
Did you know that over 75% of patients at the Australian Wildlife Health Centre are injured on our roads?
RACV Wildlife Connect is a new community service brought to you by RACV and Zoos Victoria, in conjunction with wildlife carer groups: Help for Wildlife, Wildlife Rescue and Information Network and Wildlife Victoria.
RACV Wildlife Connect provides a central 24-hour telephone service for any Victorian motorist who hits or enounters injured wildlife on the road. Callers to the Wildlife Connect number will be connected to a volunteer from one of the wildlife rescue services who will provide help and advice.
The Wildlife Connect service aims to increase reporting of wildlife injuries to facilitate the rescue and rehabilitation process and to improve public awareness of the issues affecting native wildlife.
If you hit or encounter an injured animal in Victoria on the road just follow these simple steps:
1. Pull over only if it's safe to do so.
Make sure you are not in the way of other vehicles and are clearly visible to traffic. Use your hazard lights to warn approaching motorists to be careful and dip your headlights.
2. Don't venture on the road before checking that it's safe.
3. Call RACV Wildlife Connect on 13 11 11.
RACV will connect you to one of the established 24-hour volunteer wildlife rescue networks in your area.
